If you are having difficulties with your Malamute, we would like to help you
find solutions before you consider giving it up for
adoption. Please contact any of our volunteers for advice on training,
specific behaviorial issues, or general questions about the breed. We aren't
all experts, but all Polaris volunteers have had extensive first-hand
experience with Malamutes and would like to be of help if we can.
If you do decide that you need to find a new home for your dog, we will make
every effort to work with you in placing it with a new family. DO NOT CALL
THE MAIN HOT LINE NUMBER REGARDING YOUR ANIMALS – rather, please fill out the
form below and we will be in contact with you soon. If you have more than one
dog you need to surrender, PLEASE FILL OUT A FORM FOR EACH DOG. If there is
anything else you feel we should know about your dogs or your situation, you may also
send us
a note with a picture and very thorough description of your Malamute and
why you have decided to give it up. Also, please include your name and the name
of your dog(s) in the subject line of the e-mail; this makes it easier for us
to keep track of the status of the surrenders. The more information we know
about a dog, the better we are able to evaluate our potential adopters and match
the dog to its new family. It is also helpful to have a copy of your dog's
veterinary history and shot records.
We try to place surrendered dogs into foster care with one of the Polaris
volunteers as soon as possible; however, due to the number of Malamutes that we
have at any given time, we may ask that the surrendering family act as temporary
foster home for the dog until we are able to take it into the rescue. Please
be understanding of our very limited resources and realize that the more patient
you are, the better chance we have of helping rehome your dog.
There is a nominal surrender fee of $85 that we will ask of you when we accept
the dog. This money is used to house, feed, and provide veterinary care for
the Malamutes while they are in our care.
